Purpose:

The Longitudinal Research Program in Late-Life Suicide (gsuicide.pitt.edu) seeks to understand interacting risk and protective factors related to biological and psychosocial factors of aging that lead to the elevated suicide rate in late-life. We conduct a longitudinal study of late-life suicide attempters, which provides a unique opportunity to evaluate the predictive value of these risk factors on prospectively assessed suicidal behavior. In addition to our detailed clinical characterization, we use neurocognitive assessments, game theory experiments, and decision process measures to understand how cognitive abilities and decision making contribute to suicide risk. In addition, we recently started an EMA study that investigates changes in emotions using digital monitoring and sleep health using actigraphy.

The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative skills, programming experience, some experience in psychology, and an interest in suicide research. The following skills are preferred. Programming Languages: R, Matlab, Python or similar. Our data coordinator will oversee data management, data quality check, data training, and assist in annual report submission to funding agencies, and collaborating with other investigators in the Department.  Successful lab members get support with independent data projects that can lead to publications, and they also benefit from weekly meetings with statisticians. They will also have the opportunity to obtain clinical skills and administer psychological assessments based on interests.

 This position is grant funded with flexible start date. This person can start anytime during the spring to summer of 2023.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties for approved research projects according to defined protocols and procedures including appropriate collection, recording, and storage of data.
  • Assist in hypothesis generation, data analysis and data presentation and publication.
  • Conduct various data report generations using R language.
  • Conduct data missingness and quality check regularly.
  • Maintain the data training manual.
  • Train newly hired data coordinator on learning all data-related responsibilities.
  • Fulfill data requests from collaborators for project initiation.
  • Maintain lab website.
  • Create, maintain and backup our Redcap database.
  • Assist in the generation of annual data/study reporting to funding agencies.
  • Administer questionnaires and assist with procedures for obtaining patient data.
  • Follow appropriate research policies and procedures including all applicable laws and regulations and maintain scientific integrity including accurate data storage.
  • Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.

Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields, or equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in mood disorder and suicide risk assessment preferred.
  • The preferred minimal length of commitment is two years.
  • Computer Skills (Microsoft Office Products).
  • Experience and knowledge with R language strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of HTML, GitHub, and other coding languages preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with Redcap strongly preferred.
  • Ability to accurately collect and store research data.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently, must be able to work a flexible schedule based on study needs.
  • Ability to interact with patients/study participants and research and medical staff.
