Senior Research Analyst- Children’s Educational Media

Research Department- Sesame Workshop

Sesame Workshop is seeking a Senior Research AnalystChildren’s Educational Media Reporting to the Directors of Research (there are two), the manager’s work will focus on Sesame Workshop’s domestic initiatives—including video, digital and outreach projects for Sesame Street and other properties.  The right candidate will have had experience in a social science research lab and working directly with preschool-age children. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting the coordination of research projects including scheduling school visits, training and managing interns and freelancers, and preparing protocols and stimuli
  • Assisting the lead interviewer and sometimes acting as the lead interviewer on school visits
  • Entering, coding and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data
  • Leading small and large studies on occasion from start to finish (including protocol development and stimuli assembly, leading on interviewing, data analysis and report writing)
  • Summarizing research results for a range of audiences
  • Conducting literature searches and keeping up with the latest child development and media effects research
  • Support Sesame Workshop research team with administrative tasks as needed


  • Up to 3 years of research experience at a non-profit, academic or educationally-oriented institution
  • Master’s degree in Education, Child Development, Educational Psychology or similar field with a quantitative focus
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Demonstrated experience with basic statistics (t-tests, ANOVAs, regressions) and statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, R)
  • Experience interviewing preschool children and the adults who care for them
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office (especially Excel) and internet navigation
  • Excellent organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and the ability to manage time effectively, track and follow-up on various tasks, and multi-task
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and relationship management skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel by car and airplane, as this position requires some travel locally and across the country
  • Ability and willingness to work early mornings and occasional evenings as studies may require early school visits or late focus groups
  • Experience with preschool children’s media (video and digital/interactive) preferred
  • Experience with user-centered design or UX research preferred
