The Department of Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications for a Tenure Track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Developmental Psychology beginning July 1, 2021, subject to budgetary approval.
Qualified applicants musthave a Ph.D. (or will have a Ph.D. before July 1, 2021) in Developmental Psychology or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will be a developmental psychologist whose research focuses on any period of development or age group within the human life span, with the ability to bridge theory and application. The candidate should also have expertise in advanced quantitative statistics (which could include, but is not limited to, some of the following examples: the ability to navigate and use large data sets; longitudinal analyses such as growth curve modeling; Bayesian statistics; item response theory; Rasch modelling; hierarchical linear modeling; structural equation modeling; internet and social media data analysis; data visualization; dyadic data analysis; and meta-analysis; in addition to more traditional psychological data approaches). An interdisciplinary research agenda that focuses on one or more of these areas would also be an asset: socio-emotional development, socio-cognitive development, personality development, intercultural issues, intergenerational transmission. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess expertise or interest inextending / translating research in applied / real-world contexts, or an anti-oppression lens to their scholarship (focusing on Indigeneity, diversity, inclusion, and research with equity-seeking populations).
The ideal candidate is a scholar with a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels (including statistics courses); as well as supervising graduate students in the Masters and Doctoral programs. Applicants must have a PhD in Developmental Psychology or a closely related field (e.g., Human Development and Family[DL6] Studies), an active research program that compliments existing research programs within the Department of Psychology; with a strong track record of academic publications (and/or other knowledge outputs) and demonstrated potential for obtaining research funding from Tri-Council and/or other sources. A strong record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, with experience teaching and supporting a diverse group of students is an asset. A commitment to teaching statistics would be an asset[KW7]. The successful applicant must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate collegiality in a comprehensive psychology department.
