The Psychological Sciences Department at University of California Merced is seeking applicants for two new faculty positions in Developmental Psychology, one at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) level and one at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track), Associate Professor (tenured), or Full Professor (tenured) level. 

 

We seek scholars whose research focuses broadly on promoting positive development in children, adolescents, and families, or developmental issues in diverse populations. We are especially interested in research that focuses on the challenges present in the underserved, diverse populations in our region. Examples of possible research areas include, but are not limited to, individual, family, and community factors involved in the healthy development of children; mechanisms of disparities in developmental outcomes; multiculturalism; multilingualism; cultural and socioeconomic influences on development. This is a unique opportunity for individuals to join the faculty at the newest University of California campus and to engage in long-term program building.

 

Individuals with a history of and commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. We seek candidates who can serve our unique student body. In 2018, 73% of our undergraduate students were first-generation college students, and 55% were Chicano/Latino. Our next largest ethnic group is Asian, who constitute 19.5% of our undergraduate students.

In order to be considered, candidates must have a doctorate in developmental psychology or a closely related field by the position start date. The successful candidate will have a strong record of publication; interests in program-building; and, a commitment to excellence in teaching. At the Associate/Full Professor levels, the successful candidate will have a strong record of leadership, evidence of an influential research program, and potential for grant funding or history thereof.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2020.
