The Psychology program at Purchase College, SUNY, invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2021 (with the possibility for a tenure-track appointment, pending cabinet approval). Our department values inclusive research and teaching as seen through our commitment to student-faculty mentorship and in our research-focused curriculum.
We are open to candidates from all areas, but are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching interests are intersectional or interdisciplinary involving racial, cultural, linguistic, educational, individual difference, or equity issues across any part of the lifespan. The ideal candidate would be able to contribute to the Global Black Studies minor or the Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies major and/or conduct research specializing in older populations.
The successful candidate will be prepared to maintain an active research lab with groups of undergraduate students from various backgrounds. The candidate will teach a Research Methods and Statistics course (lecture + lab) in the Fall and Spring of the 2021-2022 academic year, in addition to one elective course in their area of specialization. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can develop courses that examine developmental perspectives on issues of bias, culture, or equity.

The department is seeking applications from candidates who can demonstrate experience with diverse, multicultural populations through their own background, research training, or past teaching experiences, and should highlight this in their cover letter and other relevant materials. A doctoral degree in Psychology, Human Development, or a related field by August 2021 is required.
A senior research project is a college-wide requirement and signature feature of the Purchase curriculum. Therefore, the potential for or presence of an active publishing record of high-quality scholarly work and a passion for mentoring and advising students from cross-sectional communities is critically important.
