Job Description:
California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Human Development and Family Science who will primarily contribute to teaching and research in Family Science. The position is a full-time, academic year, 9-month, tenure-track appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Human Development, Family Science/Studies, Developmental Psychology, Sociology, or a related field
  • ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by the first day of employment
  • Demonstrated ability of effective teaching of undergraduate courses in Human Development and Family Science
  • Record of or demonstrated potential for successful research and publication
  • Strong background in family science theory and research
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse student population and in diverse communities
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in higher education

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Teaching

  • Experience in developing and implementing culturally responsive pedagogy and inclusive teaching practices employing active and engaged learning techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses across the human development and family science curriculum, with a focus on teaching Diverse Families, Immigrant Families, Parenting across the Lifespan, Risk and Resiliency in Families, and Addiction and Recovery in Families
  • Demonstrated ability to teach core Human Development and Family Science courses, such as writing in the discipline, research methodology, professional development, service learning, and capstone courses

Research

  • Research activity on families and/or parenting, with a particular interest in diverse family structures, underrepresented populations, and intersectional approaches to family studies
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to mentor students in research and in applied research settings
  • Ability to conduct research leading to publication in areas relevant to the department, college, and university’s mission
  • Experience with or potential to write and/or administer grants
