The Department of Biology and the Neuroscience Program at Providence College invites applications for one full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The hire will be jointly appointed in Neuroscience and Biology, with 2/3 Neuroscience and 1/3 Biology teaching responsibilities. Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, Neurobiology, or a closely related field. This position is broadly defined within the fields of Neurobiology; potential areas of scholarship could include but are not limited to Cellular or Molecular Biology, Neurophysiology, Developmental Neuroscience, Physiological Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, Neuroimmunology, or Addiction. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentorship and demonstrate the ability to establish an active program of research involving undergraduates. Providence College’s state-of-the-art and newly constructed Science Complex features flexible lab space, as well as a well-equipped animal vivarium, microscopy suite, and wet labs. In addition to engaging students in research, candidates will teach 5-6 undergraduate courses per academic year, including Introduction to Neuroscience (100-level course; 3 credits), and be able to teach at least two of the following Foundational Biology courses required for both Neuroscience and Biology Majors:

1. General Biology 1 (100-level course; with lab, 4 credits),
2. General Biology 2 (100-level course; with lab, 4 credits),
3. Cellular & Molecular Biology; 200-level writing intensive course),
4. 300-level Biology courses including Anatomy, Developmental Biology, Physiology, Microbiology, or Genetics.

The opportunity to teach Neurobiology (300-level course; with lab, 4 credits) and upper-level seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise (both at the 400-level) will also be available. Candidates will also be expected to assist with curricular development in the interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program which recently became a major.
